Under what conditions can I place a PURbox in the insulation face

If we are planning to place a louvered exterior louvre in the contact insulation, we want to use the space as much as possible to insulate the lintel, of course to accommodate the louvre (see here for how to plan the space in the insulation for each type of louvre ) and also address the safe incorporation of the PURbox in the ETICS. Due to the limited space given by the depth of the contact insulation, sooner or later we will come to the question "Under what conditions can we go with the front side of the PURbox up to the face of the insulation".

We are addressing this issue with Franken Maxit, a leading supplier of facade systems. Through laboratory tests and years of experience as a façade contractor, we have arrived at the following rules of thumb for when we can place the PURbox into the face of the insulation:

  1. It must be EPS contact insulation
  2. Maximum element length must be 3000mm
  3. Use is possible for smaller scale facades (bungalows, single storey houses, facades divided by terraces ...)
  4. The front side of the PURbox must be fitted with a high quality adhesive bridge.
  5. The condition of use is, of course, that all the prescribed procedures of the recommended ETICS solution are followed. Sufficient overlapping of the reinforcement fabric, sufficient diagonal reinforcement and, above all, the use of the correct materials as recommended by the facade system supplier.

For corner and continuous PURbox assemblies, or where larger scale contact insulation is involved, a plate should be placed across the front of the PURbox to distribute expansion forces and other negative influences. For this covering, we can ideally use a maxit lightweight LD 10 mm bearing plate.
