World Shading Day

A growing percentage of the population is becoming aware of the undesirable effects of the sun (UV radiation). Therefore, shading technology is gradually becoming indispensable to protect buildings against overheating, reducing the use of energy-intensive air conditioning and thus reducing the negative impact on the environment.

This year, the first day of spring was also associated with the first Global Shading Day, i.e. Shading Day. This important new day has been proclaimed for 21 March 2023 by the European Shading Organisation (ES-SO) and its main objective is to educate the general public and high-ranking officials about the economic and especially the environmental benefits of shading technology.

Sun protection first

With the arrival of spring, it's natural to enjoy the warm rays of the first spring sun. But at the same time, a growing percentage of the population is becoming aware of its side effects. Shading technology is therefore gradually becoming indispensable to protect buildings from overheating, reducing the use of energy-intensive air conditioning and thereby reducing the negative impact on the environment. ES-SO is therefore calling on companies and individuals to pay more attention to shading technology on Global Shading Day, because the numbers couldn't be clearer.

Environmental Solutions for a Better Planet

The Society of Shading Technology Entrepreneurs (SPST) and the European Shading Technology Organisation (ESTO) agree that now more than ever there is a need to inform the general public about the introduction of standards in building regulations. This seems to be a logical step in the current accelerating climate change. Shading Technology Day is therefore intended to bring new information and education on the positive impacts of smart shading technologies. On 21 March, ES-SO and its partners actively raised awareness across Europe through a series of activities and by sharing content on social media with the hashtag #GlobalShadingDay.

Europe-wide awareness with one voice

The main communication tool of Shading Day is an awareness campaign targeting all potential customers and users of shading technology. By popularising this new "holiday", awareness raising will also create new business opportunities for dealers of shading technology at the beginning of the season. The Czech version of Shading Day has the same strategy as the European Global Shading Day - the so-called "one voice strategy". It brings together all the companies and associations in the industry to focus on drawing attention to the media, their business partners, customers and the general public.

This year's first Global Shading Day has so far been a European variant, but ES-SO is planning to expand it for the coming years and believes it has the potential for global reach. Global Shading Day is therefore not a one-off initiative, but has the ambition to become a recurring event, on 21 March each year, to put the importance of shading on the calendar everywhere as spring approaches.
